What a strange thing that would be: a bad day. Why would the Earth’s position relative to the Sun have any bearing on how happy you could be? How is it that you are trapped in some sea of badness until a sunrise? Is this some kind of Vampire bad-day thing?

76 Relax and Succeed - You must learn a new way to thinkLook, don’t say you want to be happy and then talk to people about nonsense ideas like bad days. The first thing you have to do if you want to be psychologically healthy is to start actually paying attention to your own thinking. You have to stop yourself when you’re saying nonsensical things.

Almost the entire society is afflicted with ridiculous thinking, and it continues only because the ego-motivated crazy people outnumber the clear-headed sane ones. This means you think it’s sane to bitch about the weather because other people do. But any healthy person can see that you’re living within an illusion and you are volunteering to suffer. Words don’t change weather. You’re just using words that have abstract meanings to blame something for simply Being.

What do I mean by abstract meanings? I mean stuff like supposed, or nice, or cold. There is no way the weather is supposed to be on any given date. And nice or cold are value judgments. Sometimes farmers are thrilled about the snow and rain that upsets city-people. Who’s right and who’s wrong?

The math is simple: being angry or depressed about the weather is wasting your life. Will your anger or sadness or frustration make it warmer? Will it make it rain? Or stop raining? Or will the weather be the weather no matter how many people are upset by it? Do you see how arrogant Humans have become? We believe we should have control over the weather. We’re insane.

76a Relax and Succeed - The only difference between a good dayThe fact is, you’re like an ant in the middle of someone’s back yard. No matter which way you walk, you’re going to have some uphills that work you hard, and some downhills that are easy and fun. There is no direction in which an all-downhill world exists. So stop pretending it does with your thoughts, stop spreading your dis-ease with your words, and stop being so childish as to hand over your psychological health to something as arbitrary as the weather.

You think your thoughts. Rain and snow don’t make you think anything. You choose those thoughts. You go out and work your mind to ensure you get a heavy dose of those chemicals you don’t enjoy. The longer you talk with yourself or others about how bad the weather is, the more of those chemicals you give yourself.

So the next time you say, I’m having a bad day, at least begin to be spiritually responsible, and in your mind know that you truly said, I’m choosing to think unpleasant experiences into existence. Because if you don’t think it’s a choice then what is it that you think is different about those of us who aren’t bothered by the weather?

Your spirituality is a practice. Stop saying you want to be happy and start doing the things that lead to happiness. Because in the end there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.

Enjoy your day. Intentionally.
