The Friday Dose #11 – Connections

Sure, it’s cute. It’s a baby and a puppy—pretty easy to like. But don’t stop there. Connect. Slow down. Quiet your thoughts. Don’t glance at the photo. Consider it. Truly take it in. Absorb the experience that’s being had in this photo. For both of them. And think about nature, and connection and even the bliss of unadulterated sleep. Give yourself some time. Imagine what their breathing sounds like. Just be with the idea. Learn to place value on doing such a thing. Come to know that the reason you enjoy things like this isn’t because these two are cute, it’s because being present with it realigns you with your true wise self. Don’t be casual. Don’t be brief. Don’t be hurried. Stop. Quiet. Consider. Enjoy:

The State We’re In is a now-defunct but-once-excellent radio program produced by Radio Netherlands Worldwide. Every show was interesting but this episode in particular relates very much to the subject of consciousness and identity and mental health. Again, the whole show is terrific so if you have time listen to all of it, but about 31 minutes into it you’ll find an incredible 15 minute story about Simon Lewis, a Hollywood producer who had an entirely accidental and yet fantastically profound spiritual awakening. This is really worth listening to. Again, the Lewis story starts 31 minutes in. You can listen to it streamed online, or you can download the MP3. The choice is yours:

And finally, in this video we see an example of people forgetting barriers. There is no actual separation between ourselves and others. I know it seems remarkably compelling from an ego’s perspective—it seems impossible that we could love absolutely anyone. But in truth the only reason we cannot is because we believe we cannot and we only believe that because we have told ourselves a story. So a non-bigot can easily see that a bigot could easily be friends with someone he thinks he hates. The same for non-bigots. You too have your subtle forms of bigotry. But the connection between people is always there. We only need to realize it. As these filmmakers did when they asked 20 strangers to kiss:
