One of the most popular reasons people come to see me, is to manage some significant life change.
Some of these changes are caused by natural events that happen as we grow and age, like when we start dating, get married, have children, start a new career, begin retirement, or a new life as an empty-nester. This sort of training can also be very helpful when we’re learning to be comfortable with things like a chronic condition, or the aging process.
Other, often more difficult changes, are those we do not choose—like getting fired, being rejected romantically, or by a social group. Sometimes our lives are forced to change through some sort of medical issue that drastically changes our future, or the future of a loved one.
Any major life change will mean that our brains—previously wired up for our previous life, must suddenly adapt, and develop new associations that are helpful to our new life. But the stress created by those changes to our brains can create a form of PTSD if not handled well.
Keep in mind, not all big changes to our understanding are negative. Enjoyable pursuits, like moving to a new culture, can often mean enormous upheaval and significant challenges. The stress associated with significantly rewiring our brains will still be required. But the simple fact that we welcome those changes means that the change-process is made easier through Presence and a lack of resistant thought.
In contrast, changes that often appear to lack upsides can be much more challenging. But even there, we are healthiest if we come to a state of non-resistant acceptance of who we need to be in our Present situation. But that only happens if someone can teach us how to let go of our former self, so that we can be open to the changes required to be who we are today.
Without proper training in the use of our minds, that ‘letting go’ process can seem mysterious, and it can appear unlearnable. But, with the appropriate training, we can acquire the practical skills required to shift from our old identity into our new one.
I have plenty of experience helping people with a wide variety of change. So if you are seeking to ‘let go’ of the past, and accept and embrace a new future, then I may be just the right guide for you.
Feel free to email me at scottis@relaxandsucceed.com at your convenience and we can plan a phone conversation, or we can go for a walk, or a coffee, and you can feel out if my very practical guidance is the sort of help you’ve been looking for.
Regardless of whether you would like to work together or not, I wish you all the very best.
Enjoy your day!
